MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.net/ 12 August 2025)—Heads up, skywatchers! The Perseids meteor shower, one of the brightest shows each year, will peak tonight at 150 meteors per hour.

According to Pagasa’s Astronomical Diary, the Perseids are seen from July 17 to August 24, but the “strong” peak tonight is noted.

Each night, the shower can be seen at approximately 10:06 p.m. when its radiant point is above the eastern horizon, and continues until dawn. According to Pagasa, the ideal time to observe the shower is around 05 a.m. to 06 a.m., when the radiant is positioned highest in the sky. Space.com said the best time is pre-dawn hours after midnight.

Pagasa also noted that during the peak hours, there might be “considerable interference” with meteor viewing due to the Moon being in its last quarter phase.

The bright, waning gibbous moon will make fainter meteors hard to see. But the bright ones will still be visible.

The Perseids originate from debris left by Comet 109P/Swift- Tuttle and appear near  the constellation Perseus.
