MALAYBALAY (BukidnonNews.net/ 23 October 2024)—As tropical storm Kristine continues its northwestward track, four towns in the province have suspended classes on all levels starting yesterday, Oct. 22. They are Dangcagan, Pangantucan, Kibawe, and Kitaotao, the latter of which was recently hit by landslide.
According to the region’s Office of Civil Defense, other provinces had also done the same. Classes were suspended in the municipalities of Talisayan, Sugbongcogon, Salay, and Magsaysay in Misamis Oriental and in the Don Victoriano town of Misamis Occidental. The entire province of Camiguin halted its classes.
According to latest Pagasa advisory (at 2 p.m. today), the eye of the storm is now located near Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 105 km/h. Typhoon Kristine is forecasted to bring moderate (less than 100 mm) to torrential rains (more than 200 mm) in some parts of Luzon and Visayas. Flooding and landslides are expected.
Severe winds are also forecasted in several provinces of Visayas and Mindanao, especially in coastal and upland areas, until this Friday when Kristine is expected to leave the country. (BukidnonNews.net)
