MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.net/ 14 August 2025)—The driver of the van transporting five Benedictine nuns and a monk had died after a trailer truck rammed into them on Monday, August 11 in Damulog.
Alfredo Lagrimas, a 66-year-old widower from Sinayawan, Valencia City was declared dead-on-arrival at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Kibawe.
In the report sent by PCpt Marlon Subrian, OIC of the Damulog Police, Lagrimas and company were heading to Polomolok, South Cotabato when at 5:35 p.m. a white trailer truck en route to Cagayan de Oro collided into them at the curve of the road.
The report said the truck crossed the opposite lane and collided with the van, resulting in serious injuries to its driver and passengers. Both vehicles incurred visible damage.

According to the Damulog Police, they already have custody of the 29-year-old truck driver, a resident of Sarmento Parang, Maguindanao.
In an August 12 statement by Fr. Savio Ma. Siccuan, Abbot of the Monastery of Transfiguration, the survivors were declared “out of danger” and recovering at the Malaybalay Polymedic Center. The five Benedictine nuns were from the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery while the monk is from the Abbey of Transfiguration in San Jose, Malaybalay.
Fr. Siccuan also requested prayers for both the dead and the survivors.
