MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.net/ 28 June 2025)—Old Atugan Bridge in Impasug-ong is not passable after the heavy rains on June 15 destroyed its concrete foundation.

This assessment came from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office which immediately responsed to reports at the Old Sayre Highway,  near the Swimming Pool in Purok 6, Poblacion.

In netizen Perfecto Jalapan’s video interview with DPWH Engr. Asiniero, the latter explained that before the rain, part of the bridge has been excavated due to repairs. The Department of Public Works and Highways had a contract with a firm for its repair.

“…Ang contractor ani sa tulay, nag-excavate sila diha…Na-stop ilang excavation diha due to redesign…so medyo nabyaan. Wala man na-protektahe mao ng pagbaha na(apektuhan) sya,” the engineer said.

(The contractor paused their excavation due to redesign. It was just left there without protection so when it flooded it got damaged.)

Residents are advised to use the New Atugan Bridge instead, which despite its name has been in use since 1970s.

Meanwhile, the Impasug-ong police station advises the public to use the Capitan Bayong Sayre Highway if they intended to go to the Communal Ranch.

They added: “Magmabinantayon kita sa pag sige ug ulan kay basin naay mga pagdahili sa mga kabukiran o Yuta.” (Let’s watch out for possible landslides during heavy rains.)
