In an online post, Bishop Noel Pedregosa urged all priests, religious organizations, and lay people to join the Sunday prayer and protest rally in Malaybalay. This is to demand justice and accountability on the estimated one trillion peso funds that were lost to government corruption in the last 15 years.

The protest will start with an 11:45 a.m. Mass at the San Isidro Cathedral led by Msgr. Cirilo β€œLoloy” Sajelan.

Then a two-hour program will be held at the Plaza Rizal. Participants are encouraged to wear white shirts and to bring biodegradable protest streamers.

Sample texts can include:

β€’ AWHAG SA KATAWHAN, HUSTISYA IPAHAMTANG
β€’ IPATUMAN ANG BALAOD SA FREEDOM OF INFORMATION,
β€’ KURAPSYON MALIKAYAN
β€’ STOP FLOODING US WITH CORRUPTION!

Participants are also encouraged to bring food and snacks. Water dispensers will be placed in designated areas.

Bishop Pedregosa’s call is an answer to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines’ prior call for participation in all activities of the Church Leaders Council for National Transformation.

Today’s Sunday march will involve 86 dioceses across the archipelago with the main protest to be held at the Edsa People Power Monument. Government authorities gave an estimate of 50,000 to 600,000 participants and planned to deploy 15,000 police officers nationwide.
