MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA) —To mark a significant milestone in elderly care, the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) inaugurated its first Senior Citizens Community Care Center (SC3C) in Malaybalay City on October 23. This groundbreaking facility is the first in Mindanao and one of only three SC3Cs nationwide.
The center offers senior citizens a dedicated space for comprehensive care that upholds their dignity and independence. It will provide holistic services, including health and wellness programs, social support, livelihood assistance, and other essential resources tailored to meet the unique needs of elderly citizens.
Recognizing the growing needs of Malaybalay City’s aging population, Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran is firm in establishing the SC3C to provide a dedicated space where senior citizens could receive quality care, engage in social activities, and enjoy a fulfilling later life.
Mayor Pabillaran expressed his joy and optimism that the facility will serve as a model for senior citizen services across the city and the province of Bukidnon.
“I am so happy that we now have a facility dedicated to our senior citizens. It is not just a personal achievement but a success for all the people of Malaybalay,” he said.
Commissioner Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche described the SC3C as a “one-stop shop” for services that embodies a whole-of-nation approach, ensuring that senior citizens receive comprehensive care, including wellness programs, medical services, and various government-provided opportunities.
Dr. Loreche explained that the center offers all essential services for senior citizens.
“The Department of Health will support wellness and medical programs, while TESDA will offer comprehensive training and support. DOLE will assist in funding our development programs, and PhilHealth will aid in caring for the elderly through its ‘Konsultasyon’ program,” she stated.
Rene Cipriano, head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), thanked the NCSC and the city mayor for establishing the center dedicated to senior citizens.
“The creation of the Community Care Center is a symbol of our commitment to the well-being of senior citizens here in Malaybalay,” Cipriano said.
Following the ceremony, activities included a TESDA caravan, PhilHealth e-consulta online registration, free health check-ups and vaccinations, job opportunities, and agricultural services organized by OSCA.
The event is part of the annual Senior Citizens Month celebration held every October, which honors the contributions and roles of senior citizens. The first week of the month also marks the celebration of “Linggo ng Nakakatanda.”
