Kaamulan 2025: Valencia City brings to life “Hunting in Bilbilisan / Pantaron Mountains”

MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/18 April 2026) The Valencia City contingent’s presentation for Kaamulan 2026 draws from the story “Hunting in Bilbilisan / Pantaron Mountains,” depicting the spiritual and cultural life of Indigenous communities living between the Pantaron Range and Mt. Kalatungan. Seen as guardians of the land, these mountains frame a way of life deeply rooted in respect for nature and ancestral spirits.

The performance shows warriors guarding the mountains and young women offering prayers to Magbabaya, followed by the Dugso, a sacred dance of gratitude and invocation. It traces the community’s journey into the forest to find fertile land, where encounters with animals inspire movements celebrating nature and life.

A turning point unfolds when a hunter enters the forest without performing the required ritual, resulting in spiritual affliction and illness. The community responds through cleansing and planting rituals to restore harmony and seek guidance before returning to the hunt.

After observing proper traditions, the hunters successfully catch a wild boar, which is shared equally following the custom of Libolong. The story concludes with the crossing of the Pulangi River on a bamboo raft, symbolizing unity, and a vibrant Inagong celebration. Dances to the rhythm of the Kuglong and Saluray, including the Binanog, embody peace, harmony with nature, and the enduring unity of the people. (BukidnonNews.Net)
