MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/18 April 2026)—Valencia City’s presentation for Kaamulan 2026 drew from the story “Hunting in Bilbilisan / Pantaron Mountains,” depicting the spiritual and cultural life of Indigenous communities living between the Pantaron Range and Mt. Kalatungan.

Seen as guardians of the land, these mountains framed a way of life deeply rooted in respect for nature and ancestral spirits.

Their performance showed warriors guarding the mountains and young women offering prayers to Magbabaya, followed by the Dugso, a sacred dance of gratitude and invocation. It traced the community’s journey into the forest to find fertile land, where encounters with animals inspired movements celebrating nature and life.

A turning point in the tableaux unfolded when a hunter entered the forest without performing the required ritual, resulting in spiritual affliction and illness. The community responded through cleansing and planting rituals to restore harmony and seek guidance before returning to the hunt.

After observing proper traditions, the hunters successfully catch a wild boar, which is shared equally following the custom of Libolong. The story concluded with the crossing of the Pulangi River on a bamboo raft, symbolizing unity, and a vibrant Inagong celebration. Dances to the rhythm of the Kuglong and Saluray, including the Binanog, embody peace, harmony with nature, and the enduring unity of the people.
