MALAYBALAY CITY (Feb. 27) The National Housing Authority, the City Government of Malaybalay, and the Bukidnon Daraghuyan of Dalwangan, this city have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the construction of the P20 million Daraghuyan Tribal Village inside Daraghuyan Tribe Ancestral Domain area.

The NHA will download the P20 million grant to the Local Government Unit of Malaybalay as the implementing agency of the project.

The signing ceremony for the 80-unit housing project, conceptualized since 2016 was held at Loiza’s Pavilion, Brgy. Casisang in the city on February 10.

Bae Inatlawan Adelina Tarino, Bukidnon Daraghuyan tribal head, expressed gratitude in mixed feelings that a long awaited project has finally come to formality with the signing.

“If the houses will really be done, it is like the sun has cast its light to our community. We will take care of it,” she said in an emotional speech in the signing event, as captured in a video posted by Merly Omarol-Suday.

Tarino said she felt both happy and sad because the dream started with the push from community elders who are now gone. She thanked both the previous and the present administration of the City Government of Malaybalay for their support in the pursuit of the project.

The plan reached the Sangguniang Panlungsod in 2016 during the administration of Former Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri but realized in the current term of Mayor Florencio T. Flores Jr.

“At least we have achieved this, we have come to the point of MOA signing,” she added.

Mayor Flores expressed his gratitude to NHA for assisting the housing plan and pledged full support of the project.

Engr. Madeleine Gilda S. Abellera, NHA district manager of Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte District Office, clarified that in 2016 the allocation was only P10 million. It has been doubled this time. Each unit will cost P250, 000.

Construction of the project will require 210 calendar days to complete with its unit costing around P250, 000. The project will be built in a two-hectare area inside the tribe’s ancestral domain in Brgy. Dalwangan.

The NHA described the housing unit as a single detached type with division inside for two bedrooms. Each unit will be built in an 80-aquare meter lot with a 20 square meter ground floor area. The second level will have 10 square meters of floor area. The unit will have concrete wall and corrugated sheet roofing. The project involves water and power line connections.

Abellera said the city government is in the process of creating an access road to the project area.

The construction of the housing project, she added, will begin 60 days after the transfer of funds.

The NHA has created housing projects with IP communities around the country requiring the purchase of lot as a counterpart. The Bukidnon-Daraghuyan has obtained their Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title covering 4,203 hectares in March 2010. (Text ang photo by Mel B. Madera/BukidnonNews.Net correspondent)
