NEDA-10 bares regional recovery plan to LGU Bukidnon
MALAYBALAY CITY (July 27) The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) presented key strategies for the COVID-19 regional economic recovery plan in Northern Mindanao.
Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, NEDA-10 regional director presented the Approved Economic Recovery Plan for the region to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on July 21, 2020, according to the Provincial Government of Bukidnon - Public Affairs, Information and Assistance (PAIA) Division on July 27.
Cariño, as quoted in the PAIA Press Release No. 98, said their plans were aimed at economic recovery through the Northern Mindanao COVID-19 Regional Recovery Program (RRP) under the New Normal.
The COVID-19 recovery framework covers economic, social services, governance and cross-cutting concerns and transportation areas.
The key strategies in the economic aspect are ensuring enough supply of safe food, improving irrigation, conducting digital transactions to minimize direct contact activities, resumption of business and develop entrepreneurial activities, develop activities that create jobs and benefits for consumers, giving priority to OFWs, Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program beneficiaries and awarding of scholarships or training to other sectors.
The social services strategies include: to expand the capacity of public health facilities and personnel, maintain physical distancing and other forms of care, strengthen public health and nutrition education campaign and other means, ensure provisions are enough to meet the needs, promote alternative learning and expand other educational facilities including digital infrastructure.
The plan also cited as strategies for the environment as good waste management and prevention of zoonotic disease, protect and conserve natural resources especially critical areas, ensure water supply and sanitation services, and improve pollution management and prevent spread of corona virus and other diseases.
The key strategies for governance and cross-cutting concerns include: LGUs will be empowered to strengthen the capacity of delivery and frontline services; enable all people to respond to the pandemic through effective coordination of stakeholders; facilitate the implementation of ICT-enabled government programs; expand broadband infrastructure; expand research, development and innovation including ICT; preventing crime, insurgency and environmental unrest; enhancing the capacity of Disaster Risk Reduction Management; and providing secure access to internet equipment.
For transportation, the key strategies are to improve transportation system to support new normal and promote Non-Motorized Transport and Personal Mobility Devices.
Carińo also presented the situation in Northern Mindanao covering the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the pandemic’s effect to the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
She said in 2018, Northern Mindanao led the pack with a fast economic growth rate of 7 percent.
She also cited that poverty incidence among families in the region has dropped from 32.3 percent in 2015 to 17.3 percent in 2018. Meanwhile, the Bukidnon figure also dropped from 47.6 percent in 2015 to 22.3 percent in 2018. (Mel B. Madera for BukidnonNews.Net)
