IP voice in Mt. Kitanglad protected area management
Datu Makapukaw Adolino Saway speaks during the 57th En Banc meeting of the Mt. Kitanglad Protected Area Management Board on March 4, 2021 held at a resort in Manolo Fortich hosted by the municipal government.
The PAMB is the governing board of the Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park, one of the most active park management boards in the country.
In this meeting, the board tackled the renewal of special land use permits to facilities located inside the protected area; ecotourism infrastructure, results of biodiversity monitoring system, and issues that affect the security and welfare of the Kitanglad Guard Volunteers and the Council of Elders (CoE). The volunteer guards’ loyal service spanned for two decades with the support of the CoE, who has been there even before PAMB was set up.
Around 60 members attended the meeting held in mixed mode, some came on site and the others attended virtually via Google Meet. Host Mayor Clive Quiño gave a welcome message. Participants included DENR regional officials and staff, tribal leaders, representatives from the Provincial Planning and Development Office, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, NGOs and officials from the 28 barangays surrounding the park.
