Dumalaguing, Impasug-ong villagers flee due to army operations
MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/19 February 2020) Twenty-one families or 65 persons fled Sitio Gabunan in Brgy. Dumalaguing, Impasug-ong town due to the army’s clearing operations against rebels since February 18.
Alex Dupeno of the Office of the Municipal Engineer of Impasug-ong said the residents voluntarily fled their homes due to the shelling on Tuesday. He said the information came from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The LDRRMO distributed food packs for the evacuees on Tuesday, Dupeno added.
He said the residents are now temporarily housed in the Dumalaguing barangay hall.
Outgoing 8IB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Ronald Illana told RMN-Malaybalay’s Straight to the Point program on Tuesday that the New People’s Army was target of artillery (kanyon) shelling early morning of February 18.
Residents took to social media their experience waking up to strange explosion-sounding noises by early Tuesday morning. Videos of reported air strike also flooded Facebook. Lt. Col. Illana denied the army held air strikes but admitted to using air support in the operations. (BukidnonNews.Net)
