DSWD facilitates exit of 187 beneficiaries from 4Ps in Malaybalay
MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/10 May 2021) The Department of Social Welfare and Development City Action Team of Malaybalay has facilitated the graduation of a total of 187 beneficiaries from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the city.
Two of the graduates, Anecita Salumag of Brgy. St. Peter and Amalia Menisterio of Brgy. Maligaya, said during the graduation rites at the People's Hall on April 28 that the program helped them support their children to complete their education and get employed despite the hardships they had encountered.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office said in its Facebook account that the 187 beneficiaries were the first batch to graduate from the program, which was piloted in the city in 2011.
As of June 2020, Malaybalay City has a total of 8,253 households among the beneficiaries, next only to Valencia City in terms of highest number in Bukidnon with 8,935 households. In Bukidnon, there are a total of 88,565 households included in the program as of June 2020. BukidnonNews.Net has no data yet as to the appropriate total number of households in Bukidnon.
The beneficiaries have to exit the program because they no longer have eligible children for coverage or those from ages 0-18 years old.
The CSWDO said the beneficiaries went through a process of assessment by the DSWD on how their well-being has improved from the interventions provided.
The beneficiaries will no longer receive cash grants but the city government will monitor them and provide support as part of the aftercare services indicated in the approved sustainability plan.
A ceremonial signing of commitment was also done during the program by the different members of the City Inter-Agency Committee to signify their continued support to 4Ps and to the beneficiaries who already exited the program.
City Mayor Florencio T. Flores, expressed his gratitude to the DSWD for their program in alleviating the families from poverty. He also stressed the City Government's continued support for the program. He then encouraged the exiting beneficiaries to work for the welfare of their families persistently.
While observing health protocol, only 20 representatives among the 4Ps beneficiary-graduates have attended the ceremony, which was organized in coordination with the Malaybalay City Inter-Agency Committee.
The 4Ps is a human development measure of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to the poorest of the poor, to improve the health, nutrition, and the education of children aged 0-18. It is patterned after the conditional cash transfer (CCT) schemes in Latin American and African countries, which have lifted millions of people around the world from poverty. (Mel B.
