MALAYBALAY CITY - The Piniyalan Reporting Governance Community Project 2022-2025, spearheaded by volunteers from BukidnonNews.Net, has pursued its interviews with select newly elected officials in Bukidnon in time for the upcoming oath-taking ceremonies in the national and local levels of government

Dubbed as “Aspirations for Good Governance: Interviews with Newly-elected Officials in Bukidnon”, BukidnonNews.Net engages the candidates for select posts to articulate their program of actions, their priority steps in the first 100 days, and responses to inputs from a series of focused group consultations held by the group in March-April 2022.

BukidnonNews.Net has organized the project in cooperation with the Philippine Information Agency – Bukidnon. Organizers believe that citizens need to continue engaging with their elected officials in a dialogue for good governance.

BukidnonNews.Net organized “Aspirations for Good Governance: Bukidnon Focused Group Discussions” – a series of discussions and consultations with representatives of at least 25 sector-based organizations to generate aspirations and proposed programs to address key local governance issues.

The initiative focused on the winners of the 2022 elections for Bukidnon Governor, Vice Governor, Second and Fourth District Representatives, Malaybalay and Valencia City Mayor and Vice Mayor.  Organizers announced in February 2022 that the selection of identified elective positions is due to limitations in time, such as availability of volunteers, among other resources.

The results of both FGDs and interviews will form part of election and governance documentation.

BukidnonNews.Net first organized the initiative, holding both voter FGDs and KIIs with candidates in the 2013 elections. Only Key informant interviews were done in the 2016 elections, with Piniyalan Reporting Governance Project, then a partnership between BukidnonNews.Net, DXDB Radyo Bandilyo, and DXBU 104.5 FM of Bukidnon State University. In 2019, organizers managed only to conduct voters’ education campaign through the “BukidDialogues 2019”.

The FGDs and KIIs were set to be done virtually in observance with minimum health protocols, organizers said. (BukidnonNews.Net)
