Army, NPA clash in Cabanglasan town anew
MALAYBALAY CITY (June 24) – A series of encounters ensued between members of the 88th Infantry “Maringal” Battalion (88IB) and the New People’s Army (NPA) in Brgy. Canangaan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon on June 22, the military said.
In a statement, Captain Norven Jay Garcia, civil military operations officer of 88IB said the series of three encounters happened in an uninhabited area of Brgy. Canangaan.
He said the NPA group is allegedly headed by Kim Banawan alias Migs under Guerilla Front Malayag, Sub-Regional Command (SRC) 2, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
The report said the soldiers have recovered four M16 Rifles, Carbine Rifle, M203 Grenade Launcher, assorted medicines, personal belongings, C4 land mine, two anti-personnel mines, laptop computer and subversive documents.
Both sides reported no casualties during the encounters.
Meanwhile, hundreds of indigenous people’s (IP) from Brgy. Canangaan in Cabanglasan town were reported by the military to have been displaced due to the series of encounters.
In an interview with HAPPY FM MALAYBALAY, Datu Delunan said in vernacular that their barangay officials told them to flee to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
He said they left their livestock and livelihood in their place.
In the meantime, male evacuees took shelter at Cabanglasan Municipal Gymnasium while the women and children were gathered at the Covered Court in Brgy. Iba, Cabanglasan.
