Army, NPA clash anew in Malaybalay
MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/ 06 Dec. 2020) – Government troops and the communist rebel group New People's Army (NPA) once again engaged in a series of gun battle at the hinterland of Brgy. Manalog, Nov. 26.
According to a military statement, no one was injured or killed among the army during the clash. No deaths were also reported on the rebel side, but bloodstains were found at their routes of withdrawal.
The 8th Infantry "Dependable" Battalion (8IB) said the clash happened when members of 43rd Division Reconnaissance Company, which is under its operational control, responded to the reports from civilian informants regarding the presence of the armed group conducting extortion activities in the area.
The said army unit encountered around 30 fully armed NPA rebels under Guerilla Front 89, Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) 2, North-Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).
After the encounter, soldiers seized an M16 rifle, two rifle grenades, an improvised explosive device, a bandolier, three backpacks, two cooking pots, two burners, 150-meter wire, assorted medicines, and subversive documents.
On Nov. 19, two encounters also happened in the hinterlands of Brgy. Manalog.
“The brigade will relentlessly continue its effort to prevent NPA extortions and other terroristic acts," said 403rd Brigade Gen. Ferdinand T. Barandon. "Further, we ask for your continued support for the continuous flow of information.”
Lt. Col. Edgardo V. Talaroc Jr, commanding officer of the 8IB, thanked the constituents of Brgy. Manalog for cooperating to end the local armed conflict.
The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. (Mel B. Madera)
