IMPASUG-ONG, Bukidnon (BukidnonNews.Net/ 11 May 2026) Today, May 11, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., Bukidnon State University deployed 45 tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) assigned to the municipality of Impasugong under the Tara Basa Tutoring Program (TBTP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The deployment formed part of the fourth year of the nationwide implementation of the Tara Basa Tutoring Program, which officially started its 20-day tutorial sessions on May 4, 2026. The program aims to help struggling readers and non-readers while strengthening parents’ roles as their children’s primary educators at home.

The BukSU contingent included 30 tutors from the College of Education and 15 YDWs from the College of Arts and Sciences, particularly from the departments of Sociology, Philosophy, Community Development, and Development Communication. The program assigned them to different barangays across the municipality.

Before proceeding to their respective assignments, the tutors and YDWs paid a courtesy call to the municipal government of Impasugong. Local officials warmly welcomed the group and expressed full support for the program. The local government also provided food packs and food supplies to support their teaching activities during the deployment.

According to the DSWD, the Tara Basa Tutoring Program engages college students as tutors who teach struggling readers and non-readers, while YDWs conduct parenting sessions that equip parents to become more effective learning facilitators at home.

For Calendar Year 2026, the program mobilized 11,468 tutors and 7,570 YDWs nationwide. Region 10 recorded one of the highest numbers of youth partner beneficiaries, deploying 1,050 tutors and 617 YDWs. Nationwide, the program aims to serve 57,291 child learners and parent beneficiaries.

The program also provides participating college students with temporary community-based cash-for-work assistance in exchange for their 20-day service. Through the initiative, the DSWD seeks to strengthen literacy, support low-income families, and promote community development through education and social protection services.
