ERLOWISM: From dust to dust

MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/21 January 2019) Working in a bank for long years, I’ve been bombarded with targets, interest and income thing.

After resigning, I realized that this society of ours is in itself a “bank” pretending to be a community of humans. It is like a “cannibal” pretending to be a businessman.

The irony, instead of us paying interest, we don’t even pay back the principal. We are thieves. We rob. We rob the fishes from the ocean. We rob the trees from the forest, air from the atmosphere, minerals, gold, diamonds, fossils, sand and gravels. We rob life. We rob our “children”.

When you buy a car you support more extractions, more robbing.

The more we buy the more we consume. The more we consume, the more we destroy this planet.

Stop consuming and this planet will survive. We will survive and our children’s children.

That is why we should not complain if rice, sugar, and other basic commodities are expensive because they aren’t cheap. This world is an expensive one to live in and protect with.

Squatters, informal settlers and Swift Cliffs birds in our streets are visible proofs of this.

We are just simply greedy – we want more – we want all!

To quote Hubert Reeves,…” Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and slaughters a visible nature – without realizing that this nature he slaughters is this invisible God he worships.ʺ

As we die, we are buried empty and naked. We go back to earth, from dust to dust. We belong to the earth. We are earth.

To my friend Jerabs, rest in peace, pare!
