St Peter rules Malaybalay’s Festival of Fantasies

MALAYBALAY CITY (BukidnonNews.net/ 28 March 2019) – Brgy. St. Peter, one of the city’s 46 barangays, bested the street dancing and ground presentation of the Malaybalay City Festival of Fantasies on March 16.

The festival, which had drawn crowds from the barangays, was one of the highlights of the 21st Malaybalay City Charter Day celebration on March 22.

St. Peter, which featured the story of “Maya the Bee,” bested nine other barangay contingents in the festival’s second year. The barangay located in the Upper Pulangui area with 2,324 population had 100 performers composed of elementary and high school students.

They received Php 100,000 cash prize for street dancing and another Php 100,000 for the ground presentation.

Rubencio Organiza Jr, brgy. St. Peter village chief, personally received the cash prizes from Malaybalay City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri.

The Street Dancing started at around 8 a.m. with the assembly area at Brgy. Sumpong fronting Pine Hills Hotel and ended at the Kaamulan Grounds where the Ground Presentation was held.

Brgy. Zamboanguita, an adjacent village of St. Peter in the Upper Pulangui, placed 1st runner-up for featuring “Peter Pan” while Brgy. 9 (Tangled) won 2nd runner-up.

In the Ground Presentation, Brgy. Miglamin got the 1st runner-up for their “Happy Feet” performance followed by Brgy. Zamboanguita.

The first runners-up received Php 75,000 while the 2nd runners-up got Php 50,000.

Aside from the cash prizes, winners were also given a trophy. All contingents were given a Php 60,000 subsidy.

Other contingents were Bgry. 6 with their Shrek-inspired performance, Aglayan (Coco), Bangcud (Despicable Me), Can-Ayan (Sleeping Beauty), Dalwangan (Hotel Transylvania) and Simaya (Madagascar).

Malaybalay City was formally established as a municipality on October 19, 1907 and was created into a city on February 11, 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8490.

The 1st class city and Bukidnon’s capital is home to 174,625 people. (Mel B. Madera)
