Gov Zubiri’s BPP seeks INC support

MALAYBALAY CITY ( 29 January 2019) – The lineup of the Bukidnon Paglaum Party (BPP), a local political party of Governor Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr., is once again seeking support from the influential religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

Zubiri and his lineup in the provincial board will meet with the local minister in the city on Jan. 30 at around 9:00 a.m..

The day before, Zubiri disclosed the information of the meeting at the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bukidnon.

Zubiri’s team will send a copy of their certificate of candidacy and a letter addressed to INC seeking support for the coming May 13 elections.

He said the local Minister will forward the documents to INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo at the INC headquarters located at Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

The Governor will seek for reelection with incumbent Vice Governor Rogelio Quiño. One of Zubiri’s opponents is former Valencia City Mayor Leandro Jose H. Catarata of PDP-Laban.

He also said the group of Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri, also under BPP, will meet with the local minister at around 1 p.m.

Mayor Zubiri is running as representative of the second legislative district of the province. He will be opposed by Atty. John Flores, son of second District Rep. Florencio T. Flores, Jr. under PDP-Laban.

Cong. Flores is eyeing to get back his previous position as Malaybalay City mayor facing his rival incumbent city Vice Mayor Roland F. Deticio.

Politicians usually seek support from INC because of their bloc-voting practice. The INC endorsed President Rodrigo R. Duterte in the 2016 national elections after he asked support.

Manalo is the eldest son of the late INC executive minister Eraño Manalo. His grandfather, Felix Manalo, founded the influential religious group in 1914. (Mel B. Madera)
