Iligan Runner Rules San Miguel Purefoods Half-Marathon

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/04 June) Iligan City’s Jeffery Sotto pulled away right from the gun start to win the 21-kilometer race, the main event category of the San Miguel Purefoods Half-Marathon Run for a Cause held last Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Malaybalay City.

A member of Iligan Road Runner club and one of the top elite runners in Northern Mindanao, Sotto conquered the up-and-down stretch with an impressive time of one hour, nineteen minutes and seven seconds to bag the grand prize.

Local bet Glendon Sandinao of Sumilao was a full minute behind at 1:20:07 to finish second. Another Iligan runner, Rodel Quilab, settled for third place with a time of 1:21:24.

On the other hand, Vivian Avergonsado from Gov. Generoso Davao Oriental stomped her class to dominate the 21K female category with a time of 1:44:43.

Her closest rival, Richi Dalla of Iligan followed almost eight minutes later at 1:52:38. Janice Red Sabelaa of Axis Gym-Cagayan de Oro finished 3rd at 2:01:46.

The event, which also featured 3K, 5K and 10K categories, became the biggest organized race in Malaybalay City so far this year.

It drew more than 600 participants mostly from Northern Mindanao. There were also runners from Manila, Surigao and Davao Region.

The race, sponsored by San Miguel-Purefoods, was organized by Panahik Adventure Centre with assistance from Malaybalay Runners and other volunteer groups. (Contributed to Bukidnon News by Earl E. Bolivar/
