Galario regains Valencia; Huervas reelected

VALENCIA CITY (Bukidnon News/16 May)  After failed attempts in 2007 and 2010, former mayor Jose M. Galario Jr. has regained power here snatching the city’s chief executive post from two-termer Leandro Jose Catarata.

The Commission on Elections proclaimed noon Wednesday Galario as winner with 30, 012 votes, or 2,260 votes ahead of Catarata. The latter obtained 27, 752 votes. Also proclaimed was Azucena Huervas, incumbent vice mayor who was re-elected with 30, 099 votes.

Proclamation of nine city councilors was scheduled morning today. The Comelec identified the councilors as Rolando P. Lavina, Oliver Garcia, Rodrigo Rosal, Glen G. Galario, Camilo E. Pepito, Eduardo D. Chan, John Lee Quillo, Helen T. Bernal, and Dr. Policarpio Murillo IV.

Chubasco Cenen Caiña, Valencia City acting election officer, said the councilors will be proclaimed without rank pending the canvassing of two more precincts with corrupted compact flash (CF) cards. Valencia has the biggest number of precincts in Bukidnon with 150.

The two CF cards came from Barangay Concepcion.

Caiña said the 10th councilor is yet to be determined Thursday morning when the ballots from the said barangay will be counted.

In the partial results Rolando Centillas Jr and Almer Alfonso Jr. are in the 10th and 11th places.

The replacement CF cards from Comelec Manila which was expected to arrive Tuesday night at Valencia City did not arrive on time.

According to Comelec Valencia, the CF cards, as of 3 p.m.  Wednesday has just arrived at Lumbia airport, Cagayan de Oro City and was expected to arrive here 7 p.m yesterday.

The City Board of Canvassers scheduled to reconvene Thursday morning to canvass results from the two precincts in Brgy. Concepcion.

Galario was elected mayor of Valencia in 2001 and 2004. In 2007, Catarata won and was reelected in 2010. (Daniel V. Mental/Bukidnon News.Net)
