Local private, public establishments to join PH earthquake drill

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News.Net/29 November) This city will join the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill this Monday said a local disaster risk management officer.

“Private and public sectors will participate in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill on Monday  morning,” said Kenneth Amiel Taylor, Administration and Training officer of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in an interview with Bukidnon News.Net.

Among the private sectors were business establishments, hospitals and schools around the city same with the government offices and institutions, he added.

“During the drill, every establishment will have an incident commander who will lead the procedures. He or she could be from the establishment itself,” Taylor added.

Possible scenarios like mass casualty incident if such disaster will occur, will be included in the drill.

“The provincial office might give scenarios on the day of the drill so we made preparations in order to come up with the best actions on those scenarios,” said Anatolio O. Avellanosa, CDRRMO Operations and Warning officer.

This drill was in line to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council memorandum that CDRRMO has to participate in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill for the fourth quarter of this year.

This is in pursuant to Republic Act 10121, the purpose of earthquake drills is to heighten public awareness and improve community preparedness and mitigation which are the key strategies in reducing disaster risk.

This city has experienced at least two major earthquakes on August which resulted to a concern of landslides and flashfloods from overflowing rivers in neighboring cities.
