Galario runs for Valencia City mayor, again

MALA YBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/03 October) Former Valencia City mayor Jose M. Galario Jr. has filed his certificate of candidacy for Valencia mayor Wednesday morning, Merlyn Rasonable, Commission on Elections Valencia City election assistant said.

He has run in all of the last four elections winning twice, in 2001 and 2004.

Galario obtained a nomination from the Aksyon Demokratikong Pilipino to vie for the post won by his political nemesis, Leandro Jose Catarata in 2007 and 2010.

Vice Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr. announced to reporters Wednesday afternoon that Catarata will be the Bukidnon Paglaum Party’s standard bearer in the city.  As of 5p.m. today, Catarata has not yet filed his COC.

This is the fourth time that the two politicians face off for the city’s top post.

Galario’s son, incumbent city councilor Glenn Galario is in his six-person city council slate. The city council has 10 members.

The Sandiganbayan convicted Galario to six years imprisonment after they found him guilty of violating Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Galario has appealed the decision before the Sandiganbayan First Division.

According to the reports, the case against Galario stemmed from the complaint of Ruth P. Piano, whom Galario replaced as the Valencia City budget officer when he assumed as city mayor on July 2, 2001.

Galario told DXMV Radyo Ukay last month he will exhaust his legal remedies to appeal the decision and will still file for a certificate of candidacy for the 2013 elections. (Walter I. Balane/ Bukidnon News)
