Broadcaster, Zubiri critic Calimpong seeks provincial board seat

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/05 October) BROADCASTER Roy Calimpong of DXDB “Pulso sa Lungsod”  (Pulse of the Town) program filed his certificate of candidacy for provincial board member of Bukidnon’s 2nd district past 9a.m. Friday.

He obtained nomination from Aksyon Demokratikong Pilipino. Calimpong is an employee of the Department of Agrarian Reform in Bukidnon and works with DXDB as a volunteer anchor on weekends. Before his DAR employment, he was a political leader in Misamis Occidental, having served as a provincial board member there. In Bukidnon, Calimpong has worked as speaker of the Catholic On-going Formation Seminar (COFS).

Radio listeners follow his program every Saturday for his hard hitting treatment of governance issues. He is also known as among the few commentators who tackled critical topics on powerful personalities like Vice Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr.

Critics, including fellow commentators, dismiss Calimpong as allegedly a biased media practitioner.

Calimpong told Bukidnon News Thursday he is running to provide voters an alternative voice as fiscalizer at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Aside from him, two other candidates from the broadcast industry have filed their COCs Wednesday, incumbent board members Rene Centillas of the second district and Gordon Torres of the third district. (Bukidnon News/Photo courtesy of  Ramon Balaquit of COFS)
