PDEA agents arrest Bigcas in CDO

MALAYBALAY CITY – Officers of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Lynard Allan Bigcas, the controversial car dealer from Talakag, Bukidnon in Cagayan de Oro Saturday after he was reported to have bumped into the vehicle of PDEA regional director Roberto Opeña, Randy Pulmano, PDEA-Bukidnon officer said Sunday.

Pulmano told MindaNews via telephone they were driving along Velez Street when a man on motorcycle bumped into the vehicle of Opeña, which was part of a convoy.

PDEA personnel asked if the man, who was later identified as Bigcas, has a driver’s license. Bigcas said, as Pulmano quoted, that his license was in his car, a Toyota Hi-Lux pick-up.

According to a PDEA 10 press release, they escorted Bigcas to his pick-up but instead of showing his license, Bigcas allegedly reached for his M-16 rifle, the PDEA statement added.

A brawl reportedly ensued and PDEA agents were able to control the suspect. PDEA then held a search they described as “incidental to a lawful arrest.”

The press release authorized by Opeña cited that they found a transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, aluminum foil, three lighters, an M-16 rifle with inserted magazine and expired license inside the Toyota Hi-Lux Pick-up with plate number KGE 811.

The 41-year old Bigcas, the PDEA report said, was reported to be doing a motorcycle exhibition, which led to the vehicular accident.

Opeña cited in his report to PDEA Director General Jose S. Gutierrez, Jr. the suspect is now temporarily detained at the PDEA 10 jail facility for “booking and documentation”. Bigcas allegedly violated Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions.

The report added that the recovered drug and other evidences were brought to the Philippine National Police crime laboratory for examination.

The suspect is reported to be facing smuggling raps after authorities seized in 2011 luxury cars and motorbikes inside his warehouse in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro, some of which were reported stolen in the United States.

He was also reported arrested on August 25 for illegal possession of firearms and was also reported involved in a shooting incident in Davao City.

Bukidnon News is yet to reach Bigcas for comments. (Walter I. Balane/Bukidnon News)
