Mar Roxas is new DILG chief – PNoy

MALAYBALAY CITY  (Bukidnon News/31 August) President Benigno Aquino III announced today the appointment of his defeated running mate Manuel “Mar” Roxas as the replacement of the late Jesse M. Robredo as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Roxas was moved from his post as chief of the Department of Transportation and Communication, which he assumed in June 2011. Aquino named his replacement as Cavite Representative Joseph Emilio Abaya, according to the government’s Official Gazette.

Aquino admitted that Roxas is good in the finance sector.

“Mas bihasa man siya sa pinansyal na sektor, saksi tayo sa pagpapakitang-gilas niya sa DOTC,” (We are witnesses to his performance in the DOTC) he added.

The President cited the sensitive and confidential tasks he gave to Robredo at the DILG and added that he was worried that what has been started may go wayward.

Roxas, added, is capable to respond to the need of service and can serve as bridge to ensure that from the police to the local governments, the country will move to one direction.

He cited that as president of the oldest political party in the country (Liberal Party), Roxas is the right person to deal with politicians.

Aquino also appealed to the Commission on Appointments to confirm the two officials “the soonest time possible.”

Bukidnon Gov. Alex Calingasan welcomed Roxas appointment.

“He is not hot-tempered. He is approachable, too.” he added. (Bukidnon News)
