Valencia fire burns CSWDO building, six houses

VALENCIA CITY (BukidnonNews.Net/05 February) More than three hours of fire wreaked through a cluster of six houses in front the Valencia City Hall compound Wednesday night burning also the City Social Welfare and Development Office building.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still establishing the cause of fire but initially estimated the cost at P1 million as of Thursday morning.

Fire Insp. Richie Fagre, city fire marshal, said they received the report at around 7:45p.m. and arrived in Purok 3, the area in front city hall, at around 8:02p.m. The city’s fire station is located in the Valencia Integrated Bus Terminal in Brgy. Hagkol. The BFP, reporting no one was hurt or killed in the incident, declared fire out at 11p.m.

The BFP reported difficulty penetrating the origin of the fire in the cluster of houses because of narrow streets. Firemen managed to stop the fire from spreading to the Commission on Audit office nearby.

They failed to stop the CSWDO building from catching fire. Rescuers managed to secure documents from the building’s ground floor. Among those burned with the building were relief goods stocked in the office since the strike of typhoon Ruby in December.

The CSWDO building, previously a residential structure, was made of both concrete and wooden materials.

Earlier on Wednesday, another fire hit a house in front the German Doctors’ Hospital in poblacion Valencia City. But the BFP reported it was stopped without much damage. (Ching Castuera of Happy FM/BukidnonNews.Net correspondent)
